Week of June 15-19

From the Classroom

As we approach the end of the school year, students continue to work hard as we review and consolidate many of the important skills and concepts we have learned throughout Grade 1.

In literacy, we have been reviewing Heart Words and letter teams to strengthen our reading and spelling skills. Through story-writing activities, students have been practicing how to organize and communicate their ideas while also focusing on the mechanics of writing, including capital letters, spacing, punctuation, and complete sentences. These opportunities allow students to apply both their creativity and their growing understanding of written language.

In mathematics, students have been reviewing addition and subtraction strategies, number sense, and problem-solving skills. Through a variety of activities and challenges, students have been practicing how to explain their thinking, identify important information, and apply strategies to solve problems.

Our animal research projects are continuing to take shape as students work toward completing their research booklets. Students have been learning how to gather information, organize facts, and communicate what they have discovered about their chosen animals. We are excited to begin the next phase of this project as students use their research to create animal habitat dioramas that showcase their learning.

We have also continued our focus on being "bucket fillers" in our classroom community. Through discussions, stories, and daily interactions, students have been exploring how kindness, empathy, respect, and encouragement can positively impact others. We are proud of the many ways students are working to fill the buckets of their classmates and contribute to a caring and supportive learning environment.

As we finish the year, we are taking time to celebrate growth, reflect on our learning, and recognize the hard work students have shown throughout the year. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's learning journey.
